On the other hand Golap Singh was a resident of Jammu. He joined the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh at a young age. Then he also managed to elevate himself as a high-ranking official of that court. Sikh Maharaja Ranjit Singh died in 1839. His court was in Lahore. However, after his death, the Lahore court was embroiled in internal strife. Gulap Singh dreamed of establishing himself as the king of the kingdom in this situation. He joined hands with the East India Company.
The East India Company at that time was spreading various conspiracies to bring the area under their control, like Amrakanan of Palashi. At that time one Golap Singh dreamed of establishing himself as a British loyalist.
About the year 1841. The British then fought against the Afghans on the North-West Frontier. He sided with the British during that war. Then came the British war against his native Sikhs. In that case, Gulap was seen in the role of Razakar.
About the month of November 1845. The war with the British took place at Sobran. Like the Battle of Palashi, it is known in Sikh life as the Sobraan War. Perhaps that is why the Punjab Chief Minister is vocal against the erosion of Kashmir's special status by the BJP in India this time. The reason is that their history is related to Kashmir. In 1845 the Sikh freedom fighters requested Gulab Singh to help them in the upcoming war. But Gulab Singh was a man of stupidity. He prevented them from cooperating with various schemes. He played the role of Mir Zafar.
William Edwards writes that Gulab Singh requested the army not to attack the British until he joined them. But he never joined. He avoided it for various reasons. The reason was that he knew that if he delayed, the British would be able to defeat the Sikhs. That's exactly what happened in reality. That is why Gulab was personally rewarded. He gained the power of the Lahore court for his treachery and that allowed him to establish the Dogra Kingdom in North India. The British East India Company blamed the Sikhs for stopping the war. At that time he demanded a war compensation of one and a half crore rupees.
There was no way they could give that. Duleep Singh was then the king of Lahore court. He was weak. So easily removing him, the British declared Golap Singh as a sovereign independent sovereign under the Treaty of Lahore. The hills of Naynaviram Kashmir were not covered by the treaty signed on March 9, 1846. After that the British gave up its occupation by ceding it. Seven days after that, the infamous Kashmir Sale Agreement was signed.
No one has ever heard of such a deal in history that it was possible to sell a community with its rivers, canals, fields and farms to a single person. This is perhaps the most infamous treaty in the history of the world. The British government at that time sold a nation state!
Many types of complaints are heard against the colonial rule. Many stories have been scattered around the world for a long time. But a shameful sale like the Kashmiri deal seems to have never been heard in history.
The British government has apologized for many things they did in the past but they are completely silent on this Kashmir issue. They never regretted selling it for Rs 75 lakh.
Little is known about the history of great torture and oppression of the Kashmiri people under the Dogra rule. So in one sentence, the Muslims of Kashmir were subjected to a brutality. Unjust persecution of Muslims was one of the hallmarks of Dogra rule.
Many people know what happened during the partition of 1947. The motto of partition was that Hindu majority areas would remain in India. Muslim majority areas will go to Pakistan. That is why the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir naturally take the side of Pakistan. But here again, Raja Hari Singh was the ruler of Jammu and Kashmir.
