A wonderful village in Kashmir is called Bangladesh!

The Dhaka Times Desk There are many villages in the world. But that's why the name of the village is Bangladesh? That's why a wonderful village in Kashmir is called Bangladesh!

Kashmir is called the land of heaven. Such is the nature of this sight and beauty of Kashmir. From the Mughal emperor Jahangir to the world poet Rabindranath Tagore also enjoyed its unique form. Rabindranath wrote some poems of Tagore's 'Balaka' while in Kashmir. Emperor Jahangir also wanted to die on the soil of the ever beautiful Kashmir. Not only famous people, every year many people from Bangladesh travel to Kashmir. Many of us chose Kashmir as our favorite place to visit.

You know what? Known as the Switzerland of Asia, there is a wonderful village in Kashmir, which is called Bangladesh!

Altogether there are 22 districts in Kashmir. If you go 80 km north of Srinagar, the name of the district is Bandipura. Bangladesh is a village in Alusa Tehsil of this Bandipura district. Outside of this floating village on the banks of the famous Ula Hrid, there is not much movement of people. After walking 5 km along the dirt road through Bandipura-Sopur, you will see the village called Bangladesh.

Naturally, the question can come to anyone's mind, why was the village named like that? You will be surprised to know that this village in Kashmir has a link with the Liberation War of 1971. In 1971, fire broke out in 5/6 houses of a village called Jurimon. The houses were burnt by the flames. Those innocent people became homeless. They then built a house together in a nearby vacant lot some distance away from the burnt area. In December of that year, East Pakistan became independent and the state of Bangladesh was born. At the same time, homeless people face adversity and start a new life. So they named their new village Bangladesh!

This village is full of beauty on the banks of the heart of Ula! Water all around, high mountains behind, all in all a wonderful natural beauty is spread all over the village. However, some common civic benefits have not yet reached the villagers properly. So they get surprised when they see a foreigner. Foreigners also go there sometimes.

Bangladesh got the status of a separate village on paper only 7 years ago. The DC office of Bandipura gave this separate village status in 2010. Bangladesh villages that started with 5/6 houses now have more than fifty houses. But many of this generation do not know the birth history of the village. Since there is only water and water around, the main livelihood of the villagers is fishing. Also they collect water and nuts.

This floating village, Bangladesh, liberation war, Kashmir all together as if there is an amazing coincidence! It's as if a magic works when you hear it. One of the reasons for this is that the year of the birth of the independent Bangladesh state, it is only natural that the village where the village was born in 1971 will shake our feelings to some extent about the village.
