A study shows that 1 lakh i.e. 39.6 people commit suicide in Bangladesh every year. In other countries of the world suicide rate is higher among boys but in Bangladesh this rate is higher among females.

The International Association for Suicide Prevention observes 'World Suicide Prevention Day' on September 10 every year. This year's theme of the day was 'Working Together to Prevent Suicide'.

This report shows that 5 thousand 666 women in Bangladesh committed suicide in 2016. This time the number of men was 3 thousand 878 people.

On the other hand, the highest suicide rate in the world is in the Latin American country of Guyana. There are at least 30 suicides per 1 lakh After that, Russia is in the second place. Their suicide rate is 26 percent

WHO says that around 8 million people commit suicide every year in the world. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the agency, said that one person still commits suicide every 40 seconds.

Already 38 countries have adopted suicide prevention strategies, WHO has urged other countries to take this step. The World Health Organization (WHO) also believes that countries can reduce the number of suicides by controlling the sale of pesticides.

In this regard, the organization says that the suicide rate has decreased by 70 percent from 1995 to 2015 due to the control of pesticides in Sri Lanka. That is, about 93 thousand lives have been saved, according to officials of the World Health Organization.
