A letter regarding the return of the medal has also been sent to state Chief Minister N Biren Singh by ASP Thounajam Brinda. In a statement, he said, "I feel that I have not been able to perform my duties properly." So I am not deserving of this medal or honour. That's why I returned this medal to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
It is known that this woman police officer arrested 7 top drug traffickers of Manipur. For that, in 2018, he was also promoted to the post of 'Chief Minister Police Medal' and Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) from the state government. However, the country's court acquitted those criminals recently. That's why Thaunajam Brinda returned the medal.
According to India Today, the drug trade in Manipur was increasing day by day. That's why the state government declared a war against drugs. Which was led by this woman police officer. In 2018, he arrested 7 top drug traffickers including a BJP leader from the state. Later, there was a lot of uproar over the issue.
After that operation, the drug business in the state practically slowed down. Hence, as a reward for his immense bravery, the Chief Minister N Biren Singh awarded him the 'Chief Minister's Police Medal' and was also promoted to the post of Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP).
Recently, a special court in Imphal, Manipur acquitted the seven accused. The reason given is that no proper evidence was found against the accused. The police investigation was not done properly. So the court gave this decision.
Thounajam Brinda decided to return his medal after this verdict. He also wrote a letter to the Chief Minister of Manipur regarding the matter.
Later, in a statement, Thounajam Brinda said, I have returned the medal to the Ministry of Home Affairs as I feel that I have not been able to fulfill my duties properly. Because this medal or honor is not for me.
