The Dhaka Times Desk Mezbahuddin Ahmed Wasim, the popular actor of the eighties, the superstar of the golden days of Dhakai films, is no more. He passed away last night (inna lillahi … rajiun).
When he was taken to the capital's Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, the doctor on duty declared Wasim dead. Waseem's departure has left the film industry of this country speechless without mourning the death of heroine Kabri.
The actor breathed his last on Saturday (April 17) at 12:30 pm. He was 71 years old.
Due to old age, actor Wasim was bedridden for the past few days. His family wanted to take him abroad for better treatment. However, it was not possible to take him abroad due to the suspension of international flights due to the increasing outbreak of Corona.
Actor Zayed Khan, the general secretary of Film Artists Association, gave a status on Facebook informing about his serious illness recently. He writes that, 'Royal pictures mean Waseem Bhai. He has given many superhit films. He has been very ill for some time and cannot even walk. He spends his time lying in bed. I ask everyone to pray for Wasim Bhai.
In the eighties, actor Wasim occupied the number one seat in commercial-action as well as folk-fantasy movies. In 1972, Wasim made his film debut in Dhaka as an assistant director with 'Chhand Hare Gelo'. Then his journey as a hero began with the movie 'Raat Par Din' directed by Mohsin. Then, as the days went by, Wasim's popularity skyrocketed. At one time he became an essential hero in commercial genre movies.
Shabana, Babita, Kabri, Olivia, Sucharita, Anju Ghosh, Anjana, Nutan - Wasim acted in pairs with these actresses of that time.
Actor Wasim made his debut on the silver screen with Mohsin's 'Raat Par Din'. The movie was a commercial success. Then the movie 'The Rain' directed by SM Shafi released in 1976 brought him more recognition.
