The helpline was opened in the two German states of North Rhine Westphalia and Bavaria. Currently, the state of Baden-Württemberg is about to join. The state's social justice minister said that "any kind of violence needs to be brought to light." According to the minister, "Violence against men still remains a taboo." Officials claim that the helpline is also filling the gaps in the social assistance system. North Rhine Westphalia's equality minister said, "This is causing men to accept violence against them." They are able to keep fear and shame at bay. According to him, "violence against men should be openly talked about like violence against girls."
Who is using this helpline?
Since the launch of this helpline, 1,825 calls have been received. 6 to 9 calls per day. 35 percent of calls come from North Rhine Westphalia. It is one of the most populous states in Germany. 18 percent of calls come from Bavaria. The rest of the calls came from other states in Germany.
One study says that:
At least 3 out of 4 calls were made by men under the age of 51.
53 percent of men reported physical or sexual abuse.
And 85 percent of men complained of emotional abuse.
On the other hand, 70 percent of men said they were in very violent situations.
2 out of 3 complainants call themselves. In 1 out of 10 cases, neighbors or acquaintances called. The rest of the calls came from professional consultants.
Most of the allegations have been made against their current or former spouses.

The organizers of the helpline said in a press conference that they are expanding the service. More professionals are being hired. Working hours are also being extended. The helpline is starting from 8 am. Currently, online counseling is also being offered.
