The Dhaka Times Desk The trial of the murder of Bangladeshi girl Felani, who was killed by BSF on the border of Anantapur in Kurigram, is starting on Tuesday after two and a half years.

The trial will begin in a special court set up by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Cooch Behar, India. Meanwhile, Felani's father Nurul Islam Nuru and his relatives are going to India soon with the hope that the killer BSF members will be hanged.

It has been reported that Felani's father Nurul Islam, maternal uncle Abdul Hanif, Kurigram Judge Court Public Prosecutor Advocate Abraham Lincoln, BGB 45 battalion captain Lt. to testify in the case and participate in the hearing. Colonel Ziaul Haque Khaled is going to India. They are scheduled to go to India on August 18.

Demand exemplary punishment

On January 7, 2011, Kishori Felani was brutally killed by BSF firing while coming to Bangladesh with her father from India across the barbed wire fence at Anantapur border in Kurigram. His dead body was hanging on the barbed wire for 5 hours. BSF was forced to file a case against the responsible members in the face of massive protests at home and abroad against this brutal killing. The countrymen including family members of Felani have demanded exemplary punishment for this brutal murder.

On the eve of going to India to testify in the case, Felani's father Nurul Islam expressed satisfaction that the trial of the girl's murder had started after two and a half years, saying, 'People are watching; I also see how they are shooting the girls. I will go to witness what has happened. Those who beat Mayder, they are hanged, and I get a fair trial.'

Demanding severe punishment for Felani's killers and demanding that the governments of both countries take responsibility for her family, mother Jahanara Begum said, 'I was hoping for a child. I will marry him well. BSF did not allow it. I did not see the dead face of the girl. If this is the case, let's have a lot of peace.'

Abdul Hanif, the uncle who first brought Felani's body to Bangladesh, said, 'After hearing the incident, I ran first. Just as I see hanging on the barbed wire, it also floats in front of my eyes. I will open all the cases in Indian courts.'

According to online news sources, Kurigram Public Prosecutor Advocate Abraham Lincoln will participate in the hearing to assist the state party on behalf of Bangladesh. Determined to play a strong role in ensuring the maximum punishment for the accused, he said that after almost 43 years, if justice is ensured in the trial of such murders, the border guards of the two countries will not think of shooting anymore. If the culprits are punished, it will be a milestone in the border management of the two countries.

Advocate Lincoln also said, 'India cannot avoid responsibility regarding the trial of Felani's murder. Because Felani had no weapons, no drugs, no cause of loss of life of BSF. So the BSF personnel could have caught the girl and handed her over to the law. Killing him would never be acceptable. If the accused are given maximum punishment, India will be defamed in the international arena.

The countrymen also now want to see the exemplary punishment of the accused of this heinous murder.
