The Dhaka Times Desk Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman (48) and his wife Sapna Rahman (42) of Police Special Branch (SB) were killed at their residence in Chameli Bagh of the capital.
The couple's elder daughter Aishi (17) has been missing since the incident. Two dead bodies wrapped in sheets were recovered from the bathroom of Aisha's room. Both have stab marks on their bodies.
According to the police, the couple was murdered in flat number B-5 on the 6th floor of a multi-storey building in Chamelibagh No. 2. The murder could have happened anytime late Wednesday night. Residents of the neighborhood alerted the police after smelling a stench coming from the locked flat after noon on Friday. After the incident, the CID's crime branch collected evidence of the murder. In this regard, Golam Sarwar, OC of Paltan police station, said that they were killed by stabbing. But who and why the killings are being investigated.
Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman joined the police in 1989 as a sub-inspector. His house is in Mymensingh. He was last working as an inspector in the political wing of Sbthi. His daughter Aishi is studying in an English medium school in the capital. Son Aihi Rajarbagh is a 2nd class student of Police Lines School and College.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Special Branch Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said that Mahfuzur Rahman returned home from work at around 11 pm on Wednesday. This incident probably happened that night. The police officer also said that on Friday morning, Mahfuz's daughter Oishi hired a CNG auto-rickshaw from Kakrail Mor and sent her younger brother Oishi to their aunt's house. Earlier on Thursday night around 3 o'clock Aishi told her cousin over the phone that their parents had left the house after quarreling. Because of this he wants to come to Khalu's house with his younger brother.
In this regard, Aihi told the police that on Thursday around 8 am, her sister woke her up and told her that her parents had left the house. Then they left the house as brothers and sisters. They wanted to go to their uncle's house. But his sister drove him to different parts of Dhaka in the afternoon in a CNG autorickshaw.
On the spot, it was found that there were three rooms in that flat. One has the Mahfuz couple, one has their daughter Aishi and the other has Aihi. The floor and bed of the Mahfuzur couple's house are soaked in blood. Probably they were killed on the bed and the body was wrapped in a sheet and taken to the bathroom of Aisha's house. However, the belongings of the Mahfuz couple's house were ransacked, but the belongings of Aisha's house remained intact.
According to the police, efforts are on to nab the maid's wife and the victim's daughter Oishi. If they are found, the mystery of the murder may be revealed. The police recovered 22 types of evidence including a bloody knife from the side of the body.
