The Dhaka Times Desk The Economic Relations Department (ERD) organized a 6-day workshop titled 'Training-of-Trainers (TOT) on Climate Change Project Proposal Development for Accessing International Climate Funds' in collaboration with GIZ, the German government's development partner.
The objective of the TOT was to help build the capacity of experts to ensure access to international climate funding through the development of quality climate change project proposals. Mr. Kabir Ahmed, Wing Chief Joint Secretary of UN Wing of ERD was present as the chief guest on the opening day of the program. Also, the event was attended by the Deputy Secretary of ERD Mr. S. M. Mahbub Alam The TOT workshop was held at the BRAC CDM from May 27 to June 1 under the Improved Coordination of International Climate Finance (ICICF) project with the support of the German government's SDG 2030 initiative. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is funding the ICICF project.
The workshop was attended by representatives of various ministries, departments, Bangladesh Bank, academicians, national level training institutes and private sector. E-Co. Ltd., UK and trainers from C3ER, BRAC University, Bangladesh conducted the workshop.
Bangladesh is going to face a complicated situation due to the adverse effects of the climate crisis. Bangladesh is one of the countries most affected by the climate crisis. In these circumstances, we need more climate funding to address impending crises and mitigate critical situations.
Bangladesh's success rate in submitting climate change project proposals and obtaining external resources from various international sources is still insufficient. This issue needs to be seriously considered for mobilizing climate finance from various local and international sources.
The workshop discussed in detail the role of National Designated Authorities (NDAs) in managing the Green Climate Fund (GCF) as well as the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Adaptation Fund (AF) with coordinated action, mutual and open dialogue.
At the workshop Mr. Kabir Ahmed, Wing Chief Joint Secretary of the UN Wing of ERD said, “Preparing a project proposal is not enough; Rather it is also very important to learn what needs to be included in a project proposal, what kind of challenges we may face and how a project can be implemented. In such initiatives we need to involve the private sector, especially NGOs and more stakeholders working on the climate sector.”
ERD Deputy Secretary Mr. S. M. Mahbub Alam said, “Our aim is to provide training in project proposal preparation. While preparing a project proposal the proposal should be linked to the national priorities so that the funders understand that the demands mentioned in the proposal are consistent with the national priorities.”
GIZ's ICICF Project Principal Advisor Dr. Ferdous Ara Hossain said, "Bangladesh ranks seventh among the most vulnerable countries to climate change. In such a context, this training is organized to strengthen the capacity of private and public sector representatives to prepare climate change project proposals.” News bulletins.
