The Dhaka Times Desk Finally, onion prices have started to come down. TCB has started selling onions at Tk 47 per kg in the open market and it is believed that this market decline is due to this.
After Eid, suddenly 45 to 50 taka per kg of onion rose to 80 taka. This price hike led to widespread criticism among the general public. The government has not decided to import 5 thousand metric tons of onion to prevent this criticism. Accordingly, 1 thousand metric tons of onions have already arrived in Bangladesh. And with the government announcement, the price of onion also started to decrease like a magic spell. Onion of 80 taka increased from 75 to 70 taka and now stands at 60 taka. Now desi onion is being sold in the market at the rate of Tk 60 per kg.
On the other hand, TCB is selling imported onions at Tk 47 per kg. These onions of TCB are being sold by trucks at various important intersections of the capital. Due to these reasons, those who had kept the local onion for so long, released it in the market. All in all, the price of onion has come down.
These onions are being sold in 184 trucks across the country. 35 trucks are being sold in Dhaka. Onions are being sold in these trucks every day from 10 am to 4 pm.
These onions are being sold in 35 places including Press Club, Palashi, Shantinagar, Secretariat Gate, Jurain, Sebahan Bagh, Rayerbazar, Mirpur-10, Karwan Bazar, in front of Rajuk Bhaban, Dhupkhola Bazar in the capital. Each truck will sell 500 kg of onion per day. A buyer can buy four kg of onion at a time.
Onion-Garlic-Ginger, the largest wholesale market in the capital, Shyambazar today sold desi onions at Tk 50 to Tk 52 per kg. And onions imported from India were sold at Tk 48 to Tk 52 depending on the standard. Three to four days ago, onion was sold at a price three to four taka higher than this price in the wholesale market.
