Deputy Director (Training Department) of Directorate of Primary Education was present at the event organized by Dhaka PTI. Mahbubur Rahman Billah; British Council Bangladesh Director (Education) David Maynard and Dhaka Divisional Deputy Director of Primary Education Mirza Md. Hasan Khosrow. Apart from Dhaka, the program was organized in Gazipur, Sherpur, Jessore, Barisal, Gopalganj, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dinajpur and Moulvibazar PTIs.

The British Council trained a group of 429 primary teachers under this phase of the TMTE project to acquire skills and competences in teaching English language to primary school students more effectively and efficiently. It was a 14 week program.

The Deputy Director (Training Department) of the Department of Primary Education said. Mahbubur Rahman Billah said, “We want to create a knowledge-based society; In this process, we all need to provide the necessary support to play the expected role. I hope that you will be able to apply the knowledge gained from this training effectively in your own schools through your own teaching methods and classroom management skills. I hope you all go home after today's event with a positive attitude.”

British Council Bangladesh Director (Education) David Maynard said on the occasion, "We have tried to make everyone understand that knowing English is very important through this training program. I am very happy that you have been able to learn English through this program. However, your teaching style and children's involvement are also important in this regard. Even 15-20 years ago, the method of learning English in schools was teacher-centred, where students sat and listened to the teacher and wrote in notebooks. I hope that you will be able to apply the new methods, techniques and teaching processes that you have learned through this training program in the classroom to engage students in English language learning. Only if they can be actively involved in the process will they be able to remember, reflect and assimilate what you have taught them. I thank everyone for participating in this program for the last 14 weeks and successfully completing it. I know 14 weeks is a long time and you have worked hard during this time."

Regarding this, Dhaka Divisional Deputy Director of Primary Education Mirza Md. Hasan Khosru said, “I think this program will be successful only if our children can learn English well in school. I hope you will go to your schools and spread the knowledge gained from this program to your colleagues; So that students can learn from you in a better way.”

The British Council commissioned the 'English for Primary Teachers' (EPT) training program as part of the government's 'Primary Education Development Program 4' (PEDP4) in 2018. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina quickly approved this project, which is important to improve the skills of children in the field of English education. The project relates to the fourth of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals ie 'Quality Education', in which the British Council is a key partner. The government sanctioned Rs 47 crore for the TMTE scheme next year to implement the National Education Reform Plan. The TMTE project was officially launched in January 2021 by Education Minister Dipu Moni due to delays due to Covid.

The training of the fifth batch of primary teachers will begin on September 25 at Primary Teachers Training Institutes (PTI) across the country, including Chittagong, Comilla and Joypurhat.

TMTE is being run as a training project, where the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education is coordinating between PTIs across the country. The TMTE project, run in partnership with the Department of Primary Education, aims to improve the skills of primary-level English teachers and train thousands of primary teachers as trainers in English language teaching.
