The Dhaka Times Desk A US court has sentenced US woman Alison Fluke Ekren to 20 years in prison for leading and training women for the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Syria.
According to a BBC report, Alison, a 42-year-old resident of Kansas, has been accused of carrying out terrorist activities in Iraq, Syria and Libya for 8 years. Allison also admitted to giving military training to over 100 women. Among them were children under 10 years of age. Allison pleaded guilty in a US court last June. The federal court in the northern US state of Virginia gave this verdict on Tuesday local time.
Before the woman was sentenced, prosecutors said she should receive the maximum sentence under the law. His lawyers, on the other hand, pleaded for a reduced sentence, saying he was 'traumatized' by the war in Syria.
Allison moved to the Middle East with her second husband, according to US Department of Justice and public records. He later became involved with the Libyan militant group Ansar al-Sharia. He occasionally visited Kansas. In or around 2012, she was trafficked to Syria and became an active member of IS after her husband was killed in combat. Within 4 years, he became a leader and organizer of Khatiba Nusaybah, an IS battalion stationed in the group's de-facto capital of Raqqa, Syria.
US officials believe her primary responsibility there was to provide women with military training, including how to operate an AK-47, how to use grenades and suicide belts. He recruits operatives for terrorist attacks in the United States. In a sentencing memo, First Assistant US Attorney Raj Parekh wrote, Fluke-Ekren 'brainwashed young girls and trained them to kill. Two of his 12 children have written to the court alleging that he also sexually abused them.
