Oriya Union of Phulchari Upazila of Gaibandhar is a remote area of Bangladesh. As Kalasona Government Primary School in this union has disappeared under the river, now the students of that school are having classes in the tea shop. As a result, the education of students is being disrupted. It was not possible to build a new building as the school was washed away in the Yamuna river last year. Many students have moved to other nearby schools. In this situation, teachers are teaching by sitting on a bench next to a tea shop.

It is known that the students have given up coming to school as this situation has been going on for a long time. As a result of the poor condition of the school, there are only 5 students each in the fourth and fifth classes. Acting head teacher of the school Amjad Hossain said that the educational program of the school is going on with only 2 teachers including him. In June last year, the school building was washed away by the Yamuna river. Then today here tomorrow there the school activities are being conducted like this. Construction of new buildings was not possible due to non-cooperation of government and local people. However, for the time being, the work of a part of the school is being carried out in the printing room of a member of the school management committee. Apart from this, another member of the managing committee, Azufa Begum, is continuing her studies by setting up a chair-table-bench in a tea shop. Due to such poor condition, the number of students in the 5 classes of the school has decreased to 91 students. As a result, class work has to be done without class division in many cases. The necessary papers and notebooks of the school have to be kept at home.

It is known that there is no toilet in this school and no provision of drinking water. These should be done in a house near the school or in an open field. Nazrul Islam, president of the school managing committee, said that after the school building went under the river, they are currently looking for a place to build a new building. If the space is available, the teaching activities will be started in full even if the raw facilities are constructed within a few days. Phulchari Upazila Acting Education Officer Mohiuddin Ahmed said that the problems of that school were discussed in the upazila education committee meeting. An application has been made to the higher authority for the construction of the school building. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mehdi-ul Sahid said, the matter is under my attention. New buildings will be constructed in that area on a priority basis subject to the availability of school space. He also said that currently some money has been allocated to carry out the activities. With its help, teaching can be started even if temporary facilities are constructed.
