Two people were killed and at least 30 were injured when the Chittagong mail carriage derailed at Akhaura in Brahmanbaria on Wednesday night. Due to which Dhaka-Chittagong train movement was stopped for about five and a half hours after the accident. Intercity train 'Turna Nishitha' bound for Dhaka got stranded at Ganga Sagar railway station and 'Turna Nishitha' bound for Chittagong got stuck at Brahmanbaria. A coach of the Chittagong bound train derailed while crossing the Akhaura Rail Junction Colony area and overturned. The passengers inside were thrown. This information was given by the OC of Akhaura Railway Police Station. Saidul Islam.
The deceased are Mostakin (25) of Netrakona and Nurul Amin (45) of Ishwarganj of Kishoreganj. The injured have been admitted to Akhaura Railway Hospital and Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. The cause of the accident is not known.
