The Dhaka Times Desk Today is December 16, the Great Victory Day. Nation's glorious day. In 1971, we achieved independent sovereign Bangladesh through a bloody liberation war of nine months. The nation has today taken a new solemn oath to protect the flag.
Today is the great day of that victory. The nation completed the 42nd anniversary of victory. This time the biggest achievement of victory was the execution of war criminals. During the 1971 Liberation War, those who were subjected to ruthless brutality by the Pakistani occupation forces and their accomplices at that time. He gave his life in the hands of Razakar, Albadar, Alshams. Now the nation is going to remove that stigma by starting and executing their trial. So it can be said that this year's Victory Day is being celebrated in a new way. Although the losers of 71 continue to flourish across the country. Even so, it must be said that Victory Day is a special victory day in the history of Bangladesh.
Today, the Great Victory Day is started by firing 31 cannons in the morning. Today is a public holiday. Since sunrise at the Savar National Memorial, a crowd of eternally grateful people has descended on the martyrs. National flag of our pride will fly on the roof of various buildings across the country today.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia have given separate messages on the occasion of Great Victory Day.
Looking back 1971
The sun of independence that had set in Palashir Amrakanan in 1757 rose again on December 16, 1971 with victory. The great moment of victory was initiated on this day, December 16. Today, 91,549 Pakistani soldiers surrendered publicly at Dhaka's historic Race Course Maidan (now known as Suhrawardy Udyan), the Commander of the Eastern Command of the Pakistani Army, Lt. Gen. Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, signed the surrender document with the Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Eastern Command, Lt. Gen. Jagjit Singh Arora. in the day And as the great hero of this victory, who is forever shining and shining in history, is the best Bengali of a thousand years, the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Today on that great day, the nation remembers those freedom fighters whose great victory was achieved in return for their sacrifice. Today we are citizens of an independent state. We have a flag. We have a flag. Our place is on the world map. Today, the nation is celebrating that great victory day with due dignity. Although this time, even on the eve of Victory Day, the rise of the defeated forces of 71 has saddened our entire nation. However, this Bengali nation could not be suppressed even today. The Bengali nation will again come down to the streets to protect the flag of this country, if necessary, will give their lives again. Yet we will not let the victory of freedom tarnish the country that we liberated at the cost of the honor of millions of mothers and sisters, at the cost of millions of lives. The whole nation is taking a fresh pledge today on this Great Victory Day 2013.
