The Dhaka Times Desk The 83-hour blockade of the 18-party alliance has begun. But absolutely cool. This blockade, which started from 6 am on Saturday, will continue until 5 pm on Tuesday.
The 18-party alliance led by the BNP announced a blockade of roads, ships and railways to demand elections under a non-partisan government. This blockade is the fifth phase of the blockade program of 18 parties.
The coalition reiterated that vehicles belonging to the United Nations and the Department of Health associated with the National Immunization Program are exempted from the blockade, as well as newspapers and fire service vehicles.
Meanwhile, even though the blockade was announced today, no untoward incident was reported in the entire country including the capital. The siege started peacefully except for a few scattered incidents. Almost all the trains left from Kamalapur railway station in the morning. On the other hand, although long-distance buses are scheduled to run today, it was learned from some counters in the morning that no bus service has started yet. It was informed from a counter in the northern area that the bus will run if the owners decide. It is reported that the owners have not taken any decision till now.
Incidentally, it may be noted that the Minister of Shipping has announced that all long-distance buses will run from Saturday (today). He said that there was a meeting with the owner. It has been assured that the government will also provide compensation in this case. On the other hand, bus owners said that some vehicles should be taken out on the road, but many of them said against it, that sufficient security should be provided on the road, only then it will be possible to drive. Moreover, the owners said that the roads are cut in many places, trees are left behind, if they are not removed immediately, how will the vehicles run on the road.
Meanwhile, the operation of joint forces has started across the country. Agitators including Jamaat-Shibir are now on the run as the operation of joint forces has started in various district towns. Due to which the blockade is believed to have reduced the incidence of road barricades and vandalism. Although the operation of the joint forces is supposed to start in the capital from Thursday night, no news has been received so far.
It should be noted that the 18-party alliance led by BNP has been protesting for the postponement of the schedule of the 10th National Assembly elections and the demand for a non-partisan government.
