The Dhaka Times Desk The number of smart cars is increasing day by day. Various types of technology are being added to these. All smart cars have built-in computers. And so these cars can be hacked. Two researchers have developed a smart car hacking device that costs just $20.
So many smart car hacking tools have been developed. But none were as effective or cheaper as this one. Javier Vázquez Vidal and Alberto García Illera jointly developed this device. They named it 'CAN Hacking Tools (CHT)'.
It has the same shape as the iPhone. It's very cheap, only $20. It uses the Controller Area Network (CAN) ports that are commonly found in smart cars. These ports introduce virus code into the vehicle's system. By these codes the attacker can control the vehicle. Moving the steering wheel of the car, opening or closing the doors or turning on and off the lights can all be controlled remotely.
According to Vidal, the hacker just needs to install the code. Then he can take control of the car whenever he wants. It could be a minute or a year later.
The device communicates with the vehicle via Bluetooth. Attempts are being made to make it suitable for communication via GSM radio signals. If this is possible then the vehicle can be controlled from a long distance as well.
With the advancement of information technology, smart cars are becoming modern. But companies should think about its security measures. Above all, the car user needs to be careful.
