For formalin live (fresh) fish can be bought and eaten but for chemically treated fish there is no difference between live or dead fish. Due to which human health risk is increasing gradually.
When there was a lot of fuss about formalin, along with formalin, the harmful aspects of using chemicals in fish farming also came up. General Secretary of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) Anwar Hossain said, "We are making a fuss about formalin only. But under the cover of this, there is not much being done against the damage caused by various toxic chemicals.”
When asked about the harm that chemical substances can do to the human body, Professor MA Salam of Bangladesh Agricultural University told the media that eating these antibiotic-used fish can cause kidney, liver and even heart damage. It may even cause cancer in humans.
In Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, these chemicals used in fish food are researched in different ponds of the country. In their study, they found that 10 different classes and 50 different types of chemicals are used in fish farms.
Chemicals used in fish farms include different types of antibiotics, growth enhancers, pesticides, etc.
Again, harmful materials like fish production are being used, on the other hand formalin is used again after coming to the market. Which causes great damage to the human body. In such a situation, the law enforcement agencies should be stricter in order to prevent these harmful things from being used through the strict application of the Consumer Rights Act, the victims think.
