The Dhaka Times Desk Once the head is hit, the memory is gone, the next hit brings it all back. This is often seen in dramas and movies. But in reality not much is noticed. Recently such an incident happened in the United States. A very ordinary man became a brilliant mathematician after a head injury.
The incident took place in Tacoma, Washington. Jason Paget was a general furniture salesman. In 2002 he was attacked by two men outside a karaoke bar. He suffered a kidney injury along with some head injuries.
Later he recovered but developed some mental problems. He finds geometric shapes in everything he sees. He even began to draw complex geometric structures. When he sees a mathematical equation, he sees the appropriate geometric shape. This is called synesthesia, whereby people can smell certain colors when they see them.
One day a physicist offered him to work with him after seeing him create geometric shapes in the market. Seeing his talent in the research on number theory, brain experts became interested in finding out the reason.
University of Miami philosophy professor Berit Brogat and his team performed fMRI on Jason's head. They found that the left side of the skull was the brightest. It mainly performs various cognitive functions and coordinates information from different nerves. When brain cells die, they release chemicals that activate cells in surrounding areas. This is supposed to have happened to Jason.
Jason Paget wrote a book titled “Struck by Genius” describing his experience. From this, more details of this incredible event will be known.
