The Dhaka Times Desk 23 bodies have been recovered till 9 o'clock this Friday morning in the case of Munshiganj launch sinking due to storm. More than two hundred are missing. On Thursday, this launch called Miraj-4 sank under the influence of a storm on its way from Sadarghat in Dhaka to Sureshwar in Shariatpur.

MV Mirage-4, on its way from Dhaka's Sadarghat to Shariatpur's Sureshwar, sank in a storm when it reached Daulatpur Kalipura area of Imampur Union in Ghazaria in the Meghna river of Munshiganj at around 3 pm. It is believed that there were more than three hundred passengers in that launch.
While 40/50 passengers were able to reach the shore by swimming and with the help of local fishermen, it is not possible to fully know what happened to the rest of the passengers.
Immediately after the incident, Coast Guard and Fire Service members started working together to rescue the passengers of the launch. In this incident, the bodies of 12 people were recovered before yesterday evening. A total of 23 bodies were recovered after the overnight rescue operation.
After receiving the news, the rescue ship 'Pratya' reached the spot from Narayanganj in the evening and started rescue. 23 bodies were recovered from there.
Hundreds of relatives of the missing passengers stayed on the banks of the Meghna yesterday night hoping for the bodies. The atmosphere of the area became heavy with their cries. The whole area is now mourning.
15 divers from B IWTA, Coast Guard, Navy, Fire Service are taking part in the rescue operation. On the other hand, locals are also helping in the rescue work. The bodies of the relatives are also being handed over immediately. The district administration of Munshiganj is giving Tk 20,000 to the families of the deceased.
