Small Gold Mosque-01

The mosque you can see is the small gold mosque of Chapainawabganj. It is a historical mosque. You will also be amazed to see this very beautiful mosque.

This small gold mosque located in Chapainawabganj of Rajshahi division is one of the oldest mosques in Bangladesh. From an inscription found in the mosque, it is known that during the reign of Sultan Ala-ud-Din Shah, a man named Wali Mohammad established this mosque in a village called Ferozepur on the outskirts of the ancient city of Gaur. And so to many it had another identity as the 'gem of pride'. However, the exterior golden coating of the mosque is what makes it known as the Gold Mosque.

It is known that another mosque built by Sultan Nusrat Shah in ancient Gowda is also known as Sona Mosque, so locals call it Chota Sona Mosque. The mosque is 82 feet long in north and south and 52.5 feet wide in east and west. And about 20 feet in height. The walls of this mosque are about 6 feet thick and are made of brick and stone inside and out. And the arches and domes of the mosque have only been made of bricks. There are also four towers at the four corners of the mosque. Its ground plan is octagonal and the towers have stepped ring work. The eastern wall of the mosque has 5 arched doorways. The arches are divided into many parts and rich in various decorations. There are also 3 doors each on the north and south walls. From the site of the westernmost door in the north wall, a staircase leads up to a special room on the 2nd floor on the north-west side of the interior of the mosque. It is believed that this room, located on a stone pillar, was used for the zenana-mahal or for the safe prayer of the sultans or rulers. The interior of this mosque is divided into 3 aisles north-south and 5 rows east-west by 8 black basalt pillars. There are 5 semi-circular mihrabs inside the mosque along the 5 doors of the eastern wall. The middle one of them is quite large in size and the mihrab of each one has decoration on the stone. 15 domes of the mosque are built on the 8 pillars inside the mosque and the surrounding walls.

You can visit this historic mosque and pray on any Friday. Seeing such beautifully crafted mosques will fill your mind.
