The Dhaka Times Desk Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity, will be sentenced tomorrow on Monday. Supreme Court Acting Registrar SM Quddus Zaman confirmed this information.
The final verdict on the appeal of Jamaat leader Md. Kamaruzzaman, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity, is tomorrow Monday. Earlier on Wednesday, September 17, a 4-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Senior Justice SK Sinha kept the case pending for judgment.
Kamaruzzaman, the commander of the Mymensingh area of the Badr army, was sentenced to death by the International Criminal Tribunal on May 9, 2013. Kamaruzzaman appealed against that judgment to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on June 6 of the same year.
It is to be noted that the two charges of murder and genocide were proven beyond doubt in the judgment of the tribunal and the court sentenced Jamaat's Assistant Secretary General Md. Kamaruzzaman to death. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment in two other charges and 10 years in one.
