This eminent painter Qayyum Chowdhury was born on March 9, 1934 in Feni district. His father Abdul Quddus Chowdhury was an Inspector of Cooperatives Department. Sachin Dev Burman and Abdul Karim were close family members with literature scholars. Qayyum Chowdhury had a penchant for drawing since his school days. He was admitted to Art Institute in 1949, passed in 1954. He also met another eminent personality of the art world, Acharya Zainul Abedin. In 1957 he joined art college teaching. He has worked in various media such as oil paint, water color, wax, pen and ink, silk screen etc. The accompanying use of geometric shapes characterizes his paintings.
