80-year-old eminent painter Qayyum Chowdhury has left us. The painter Prathithyasha collapsed at the end of his speech at the five-day Bengal Uchanga Sangeet Festival organized by the Bengal Foundation on Sunday. He was later rushed to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH). Doctors declared him dead at around 9:30 pm. Later, when his body was taken to the Square Hospital mortuary, a heart-rending scene unfolded there. Countless fans and well-wishers along with relatives thronged to see him.
It is known that Qayyum Chowdhury took the stage to give a speech at 8.40 pm on the fourth day of Bengal Utsav, a five-day event at the capital's Army Stadium. Finished the speech and went down. At that time, when Professor Anisuzzaman stood up to give a speech, Qayyum Chowdhury returned to the stage again. Said, 'I have something to say.' After that he fell on the stage. At that time, the chairman of Bengal Foundation, who was present on the stage, came forward to catch him. Later everyone caught him and took him to CMH. Due to this, the program was stopped for some time.

Commandant of CMH Brigadier General Md. Nasiruddin said that artist Qayyum Chowdhury was seriously affected by heart disease (cardiac arrest). After being brought to CMH, every effort was made to save him. But all efforts failed and he died around 9:30 pm.

Qayyum Chowdhury's body will be kept at the Fine Arts Institute from 10 am to 11 am on Monday, after which the body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar. After paying tributes from people of all walks of life there, after prayers at the Dhaka University Mosque, the eminent painter will be laid to rest in the Azimpur cemetery.
This eminent painter Qayyum Chowdhury was born on March 9, 1934 in Feni district. His father Abdul Quddus Chowdhury was an Inspector of Cooperatives Department. Sachin Dev Burman and Abdul Karim were close family members with literature scholars. Qayyum Chowdhury had a penchant for drawing since his school days. He was admitted to Art Institute in 1949, passed in 1954. He also met another eminent personality of the art world, Acharya Zainul Abedin. In 1957 he joined art college teaching. He has worked in various media such as oil paint, water color, wax, pen and ink, silk screen etc. The accompanying use of geometric shapes characterizes his paintings. Motadag design on colorful background is basically his main drawing style. His paintings are also a huge luminary. As a painter, the weight of recognition of this personality spreading light in the national and international arena is also very heavy.
