The Dhaka Times Desk The report of the Pay Commission has been submitted. It has been recommended to fix the maximum salary of government employees at 1 lakh taka and the minimum at 8 thousand 200 taka.
The report of the Pay Commission was presented yesterday at 9 am on Sunday. The much-awaited report of the National Pay Commission has recommended that the maximum salary of government employees should be Rs 1 lakh and the minimum salary should be Rs 8,200.
Chairman of the commission and former governor Mohammad Farasuddin handed over the report to Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhit at the secretariat. If everything goes well, the commission's proposal is expected to be implemented from July 1 next year.
According to the pay commission report, the salary of the cabinet secretary will be 1 lakh taka and the salary of the senior secretary will be 88 thousand taka. Besides, it has been recommended to make the maximum salary from general employee to secretary 80 thousand and minimum 8 thousand 200 taka. Total expenditure will be 60 thousand crores. Those who perform additional duties will get an additional 4 thousand rupees per month along with the basic salary.
It is known that currently 38 thousand crore rupees are being spent on the salaries of government employees. If the new pay commission is implemented, an additional expenditure of 22 thousand crore rupees will be required annually. Instead of 20 grades, the pay structure is being increased by reducing it to 16 grades. 14 lakh government employees across the country will come under this pay commission.
After submitting the report of the Pay Commission to the Finance Minister, the Chairman of the Pay Commission, former Governor Mohammad Farasuddin, told reporters that the eighth salary structure of the Commission has a proposal to increase rent, house construction, medical allowance and other financial benefits. Low interest home construction loans for government officials are also proposed in this framework. The amount of this loan can be up to 25 lakh rupees.
The Chairman of the Pay Commission also said that in the National Pay Scale-2009, the salary has been increased up to a maximum of 74 percent. At present government employees are getting 20 percent dearness allowance. It came into effect from 1 July 2013.
This year's Pay Commission report proposes for the first time to provide health insurance and one-time medical expenses to government employees. Again, the family members will also get this insurance benefit. In addition, this report may say to issue a 5-year health card in the name of each employee to ensure good treatment.
The officers and employees of government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions, state-owned banks and financial investment institutions, universities and state-owned industries will come under the new salary structure. Besides, it is said that this commission will have recommendations about teachers.
It is to be noted that the pay commission was formed on November 24 last year with the aim of formulating this new salary structure for about 14 lakh government employees. At the same time, the Pay and Service Commission was formed with the aim of providing advice to eliminate various discriminations among government employees.
