The Bajrang Dal, an extremist Hindu organization in India, has said that Bangladeshis must leave the country or convert to Hinduism. This organization is the armed youth organization of Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Balraj Dunga, convenor of Merut branch of the organization gave this threat on Tuesday.
According to the media, Balraj gave an ultimatum to Bangladeshis to leave the country and said, 'Our first thing is that Bangladeshis must leave India. They have become the cause of loss of manpower in this country. And if they have to stay in the country, they have to stay as Hindus. We have to adapt them to our way of life.'
Balraj said about the recently organized religious conversion program in Uttar Pradesh, India, 'We campaigned for this program not only during this government but also during the Congress government. It is a continuous process, it will continue.'
Balraj also said, 'Bangladeshis came here as refugees during the war of independence but they have been living here for 43 years. It's time for them to leave now.'
However, Vishwa Hindu Parishad general secretary Sudarshan Chakra said, 'I do not fully agree with the Bajrang leaders. Giving any concession to Bangladeshis is not the agenda of our organization. According to the information given by the government, there are about 3 crore Bangladeshis in the country. All of them must leave this country. There is no question of converting them to Hinduism. Unemployment and terrorism are increasing because of them.'
It should be noted that there is disagreement about how many Bangladeshis there are in India. According to a census report in 2001, there are 3 million Bangladeshis in India. Again in 2012, State Home Minister Mollapellai Ramachandra said that 1.4 million Bangladeshis have entered India in the last decade. On the other hand, according to the data of the Indian government in 2007, it is mentioned that 20 million Bangladeshis are living there. Different information is given at different times. In fact even India does not know which is right.
