The picture you are looking at is the famous historic Galua Panka Mosque in Rajapur Upazila of Jhalkathi District. This famous mosque of Rajapur upazila of Jhalkathi district is situated in Durgapur village one kilometer east of Galua Bazar on Bhandaria-Rajapur highway.
The information found on the surface is that it was built in 1122 by a devout Muslim named Mahmud Jan Akon (Mamuji) in Bengal. The year of its construction was recovered from an inscription left near the mosque. Only 75/80 years ago this mosque was covered by dense forest. It was established with the cooperation, sincerity and leadership of the then Pir Saheb Mr. Mahtabuddin. It is said that when the dense jungle adjacent to the mosque is cleared, large venomous snakes come out. Huzur immediately ordered that one side of the mosque should be kept open. It was seen that the snakes came out from the open side and then the mosque was made suitable for prayers.
This mosque was very old and was slowly falling apart. Then it was acquired by the Department of Archeology of the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Bangladesh in 2004 with the sincere efforts of Alhajj Abdul Quddus Khan, a neighbor, a philanthropist and a religious person. Then in 2006 it was rebuilt exactly to the original design by the department's own craftsmen. At present five times prayer is offered here with the congregation. So it is also a historical landmark of the country.
