Scientists in the United States have claimed that using an experimental Ebola drug on 3 monkeys infected with the Ebola virus has made it possible to rid the monkeys of the virus.

According to media sources, this treatment, known as 'TKM-Ebola-Guinea', targets the Makona strain of the Ebola virus. This strain of Ebola is actually responsible for the ongoing deadly outbreak in West Africa.

It is known that the 3 monkeys that were treated with this drug were cured after 28 days of experimental period. And the other 3 monkeys that were affected died within 9 days due to the lack of medication. But the scientists warned that the effectiveness of the drugs on humans has not yet been proven.

To date, no Ebola treatment or vaccine has been proven effective in humans.

Thomas Gisbert, a scientist at the University of Texas in the United States, told the press, 'This is the first test to prevent Ebola symptoms before they appear. Here the drug has been applied to the new Makona subtype of Ebola-Zaire virus.'
The science journal Nature published an article about the research. The senior author of the article is researcher Gisbert.

Note that at least 10,000 people have lost their lives in the ongoing Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Many people have been affected. There are many researches going on worldwide to prevent this virus spreading in epidemic form.
