The Dhaka Times Desk Ahmed, the 'clock boy' of the United States, demanded compensation of one and a half million dollars. His family has sought compensation from the city and school authorities for harassment.
Otherwise, his lawyers said that the case against the two authorities will be dismissed. Last Monday, lawyers for the Ahmed family sent separate letters to the Irving city authorities and MacArthur School seeking compensation.
According to media reports, the arrest of Ahmed in connection with the 'watch incident' and the questioning of him in the absence of the guardians were called illegal and the two authorities were also asked to apologize for the incident. If this money is not received, a case will be filed within the next 60 days, the letter mentioned.
Last September, Ahmad, a ninth-grader at MacArthur School, took a clock he had made to school to show his teachers. But Ahmed was arrested by the police when he reported his watch as a 'bomb'. Later, however, when the police realized it was actually a watch, they let him go. The school authorities did this because they were basically Muslims. The issue escalated to the US president. President Obama invited Ahmed to the White House. Later Ahmed also met with Obama.
This incident caused a huge reaction around the world at that time. Millions of small messages were spread by users on social media including Facebook, Twitter with the hashtags 'I stand with Ahmed' and 'Engineers for Ahmed' in favor of Ahmed.
Many famous people also expressed their support for Ahmed. Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg also requested to stand by Ahmed.
After the shooting, Ahmed and MacArthur were told by his family that he would not return to school. 14-year-old Ahmed is currently in Qatar with his family. Ahmed is studying there on the education, science and social development merit scholarship given by the Qatar Foundation. Ahmed is given full merit scholarship by this foundation till secondary and graduation level.
Note that after that incident, Time magazine published the list of 30 most influential teenagers in the world in 2015. There comes up the name of this 'clock boy' Ahmed!
