The Dhaka Times Desk Cyclone Roanu is approaching. Cyclone 'Roanu' formed in the Bay of Bengal is approaching slightly north-northeastward from Andhra Pradesh, India and is staying over the West Midlands and adjoining areas.
Chittagong seaport has been asked to show danger signal number 7, Cox's Bazar number 6 and Khulna and Mongla seaports have been asked to show danger signal number 5 due to Cyclone Roanu. According to media sources, this warning was given in a special bulletin of the Meteorological Department this afternoon (Friday).
Today (Friday) morning Cyclone 'Roanu' was located 1250 km from the coast of Bangladesh. The cyclone is expected to hit the Indo-Bangladesh coast, or weaken due to heavy rains.
The Meteorological Department said maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone center is 62 kmph, increasing to 88 kmph in gusty form.
Chittagong government officials-employee leave cancelled:
The leave of all government officials and employees of Chittagong has been canceled to deal with the disaster.
Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin said that all possible preparations have been made to deal with the cyclone. In addition to opening a control room at the district level, control rooms have been opened in all upazilas.
