The Dhaka Times Desk The United States Navy is stationed in the Western Pacific. There is tension on the issue.
The deployment of the two aircraft carriers comes as tensions run high ahead of the International Court of Justice's ruling over Beijing's disputed 'South China Sea' claims.
The aircraft carriers USS Ronald Reagan and USS John C. Stinnis and their accompanying warships conducted air defense and surveillance exercises in the Philippine Sea, the US Pacific Command said in a statement. 12,000 naval forces, 140 aircraft and 6 small warships participated in that exercise.
The exercise was conducted in international waters. In which two strike groups also participated. Aircraft carriers are deployed in both these groups. The US Pacific Command claims that it demonstrates America's ability to conduct operations close to a strike group consisting of multiple aircraft carriers.
It is to be noted that the United States has shown strength in the area just when the United Nations Court in The Hague is expected to give a verdict on the dispute between Beijing and Manila over the disputed South China Sea.
