The Dhaka Times Desk Prime Minister's Information and Communication Technology Advisor Sajib Wazed Joy said that two lakh employment opportunities will be created in the BPO sector every year.

He made these remarks at the opening ceremony of the two-day Business Process Outsourcing or 'BPO Summit Bangladesh-2016' in the capital.

The two-day conference is being organized by the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology under the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Bangladesh Association of Call Centers and Outsourcing (BAKYA).

Prime Minister's Information and Communication Technology Adviser Sajib Wazed Joy attended the opening ceremony of the two-day international conference at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital today (Thursday) at 10 am.

Sajib Wazed Joy while delivering the chief guest speech said, 'We are really happy to organize the BPO conference in Dhaka for the second time. In the last 7 years, Bangladesh has achieved incredible success in the technology sector, which has introduced Bangladesh in the international arena. If there is no local development - it will not be possible to create our own position in the international field. That's why the slogan of this year's BPO Summit has been fixed, local experience, global business.

Sajib Wazed Joy also said, 'The youth of Bangladesh are now working in the world's best technology companies like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, that means we have been able to produce world-class technicians in Bangladesh. By 2021, 2 lakh employment opportunities will be created in the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) sector every year in Bangladesh.

He said that more than 16 million people are currently using the Internet in Bangladesh. Self-contained computer labs are also being developed in the schools of the country to involve students with the information technology sector. So far more than 3 thousand computer labs have been created across the country.

He said about textbooks, 'Apart from printed textbooks in schools, PDF versions of these books are available on the website. Very soon we are going to bring the e-book version of the textbooks. That is, not only PDF, but a real electronic version of the textbook will be created.

About the future goals of Bangladesh in the BPO and technology sector, Sajib Wazed Joy said, 'In 2018, IT exports from Bangladesh will exceed one billion dollars.'

Haolin Zhao, Director General of the International Telecommunication Organization (ITU) was present as 'Guest of Honour' in the opening ceremony. State Minister of Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak, Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Agency (BTRC) also attended the event. Shahjahan Mahmud, Secretary of ICT Department Shyamsunder Sikder, President of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology - Member of Parliament Imran Ahmed and President of Bangladesh Association of Call Center and Outsourcing (Baqya) Ahmadul Haque.

State Minister of Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak said, 'The countries of the world that are doing well in the BPO sector, all of them have strengthened their internal BPO sector.'

He said, 'A large part of our country's call centers are meeting domestic demand. Many of our organizations and individuals are working with reputation at the global level as well.'
