The Russian national airline, Aeroflot, has finally fallen into disrepute with an image-enhancing system of paying less for fat, and more for thin-skinny. Now there is tension with their reputation. Aeroflot authorities decided to give salary and bonus to passenger nurses based on their physical size. According to this policy, the thinnest nurses were paid more.
Aeroflot authorities have been accused of discriminating between workers on the issue of lower pay if they are fat. However, the company denied taking this action.
An activist named Evgenia Magurina was the first to speak out about this discrimination. She was working as a flight attendant for Aeroflot. Last year, the authorities took photos of all the cabin crew working in the company including him. From October last year, Evgenia realizes that the amount of her bonus has decreased. He is also being removed from the responsibility of attractive and long-haul flights.
Evgenia spoke to the higher authorities about the matter. He was then told that his salary had been reduced due to not conforming to the desired body type. Aeroflot authorities have decided that under no circumstances can cabin crew clothing size exceed 48 according to Russian standards. L or large size clothing according to international standards.
Evgenia says, 'At first I was shocked. Could this have any meaning? How do they determine one's salary according to body structure? I have been working in airline for almost 7 years. I have never seen such a thing. The authorities say, the success of the passenger nurse depends on her physical structure!
Evgenia claims that hundreds of other cabin crew are facing the same problem. That is why they are being made to work on domestic flights. These workers are being recruited especially on night flights, so that no one can see them! The reason is that most of the passengers are sleeping on night flights.
Not only Evgenia, women are facing discrimination in many other professions in Russia. But women should have more rights in this country of socialist revolution. In 1917, Russian women got the right to vote. After a few days, abortion was also legalized in the country. The then Soviet Russia even sent the world's first female astronaut. That woman is Valentina Tereskova. But in this country, women's access to 456 professions is limited!
Evgenia received 30 percent less salary than before due to being fat. He took Aeroflot to court over the issue. Recently this case was also heard.
Aeroflot's lawyers said that the company's fuel costs were higher for every kilogram of Evgenia's extra weight! They also said that keeping in mind the narrow corridors of company-owned aircraft, passenger nurses need to have a slim build. They claim that there is no discrimination. However, the judge did not listen to these strange arguments. He declared this policy of the institution illegal.
Tears came to Evgenia's eyes after this verdict. He said in a tearful voice, 'They thought we would bear it. Hopefully, after this verdict, women will have the courage to fight for their rights.'
