It is hard to find a person who does not know about the much talked about ship Titanic. Because people know a lot about the Titanic a hundred years ago because of the Titanic movie. Because of the movie, Titanic is on people's lips today. On April 14, 1912, the Titanic sank after colliding with an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean.
The gigantic Titanic sank a century ago. A lot of memorabilia went down with that ship. The few souvenirs there are, their prices skyrocket. Recently, several such memorabilia of Titanic are being auctioned for sale.
There were lockers inside the sunken Titanic, in which personal belongings were kept locked. The key to that iconic locker was one of the ship's last souvenirs.
After a century, the keys to the lockers of the Titanic are going to be auctioned. The ship's crew kept these keys with them. However, as the ship sinks, the key will no longer be of any use other than as a memory.
These keys are being auctioned off in the UK. An employee named Sidney Daniels kept the keys with him. He served on the Titanic as a third class steward.
When the Titanic was sinking, Daniels had the locker keys in his pocket. Later they changed hands and came to an organization. Daniels died in 1983.
The auction house said the keys are extremely rare. This is because they are the only surviving keys in such lockers.
Note that on April 10, 1912, the huge ship Titanic started its journey from Southampton, United Kingdom to New York. At that time there were 2200 passengers on the Titanic. There were several hundred workers with him. Four days after departure, on April 14, the Titanic hit the ice. The ship sank just two hours later. About one and a half thousand people died in it.
