Myanmar has accused Bangladesh of delaying the process of repatriating Rohingyas who fled Rakhine.
State Councilor Aung San Suu Kyi's Office Director General (DG) Htay Htay made this complaint to reporters.
He also said that Bangladesh government does not want to start repatriation until billions of dollars of international aid are received.
Suu Kyi's spokesperson Jah Hatay also said, according to the agreement made in the early 1990s, we want to start the process of taking back the Rohingyas at any time. However, Bangladesh has not yet accepted the terms of the agreement. We want to start the return process quickly, but the other side (Bangladesh) has not accepted (the agreement) yet. That is why the process is delayed. This is the main reason.'
It is to be noted that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed regarding the establishment of border liaison office during the visit of Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to Myanmar last week. However, no decision was taken on the issue of the old agreement.
More than 600,000 Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh since the start of the military operation in Myanmar's Rakhine state on August 25. The number of Rohingyas who have taken refuge in Bangladesh is more than 1 million.
Despite Bangladesh's call to take back the Rohingyas and pressure from the international community, Myanmar is not taking back the Rohingyas and is raising various allegations. They are struggling in different ways.
