Previously, Bloomberg reported that the company has adopted a plan to pay drivers in the United States who are at risk of the corona virus. Compensation has already been paid to 5 drivers placed under surveillance in the UK and Mexico. It is also reported that those drivers have not been affected yet.
Uber has always identified drivers as contractors. Companies like Uber, DoorDash and Postmates are required to pay more and pay more benefits, including medical insurance, under labor laws when contractors are called workers.
