Eighth grade Amik getting NASA award!

The Dhaka Times Desk Amik Mandal - an 8th grade student from a school in Durgapur, West Bengal, India has won third prize in his category in the 'NASA Space Settlement Contest' jointly organized by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the US and California Supercenter Space!

Amik came to know about the competition from the internet and submitted his 16-page paper before the last date of March 15 this year. Amik, a student of Hemshila Model School in Durgapur, said, “I never imagined that I would get the award. But a few days ago I opened the internet and saw that I came third in the eighth grade section.” Out of the 592 answer sheets that were submitted from all over the world, one of the eighth grader Amik Mondal of Durgapur. NASA liked his answer. The call has come to collect the prize. He is the only award recipient from this state! His school principal Saumen Chakraborty said, “Amik is always in the midst of innovative ideas. The entire credit for this success is his own."

Youth Development Minister Arup Biswas said that among the participants from India, there were also school teams from different schools and individual participants apart from teams. “Ten school teams and six individual participants from across India won awards this year in various categories.

He congratulated Amik for winning this award and handed over a check of 100,000 rupees to Amik to attend the 'International Space Development Conference' held in San Diego from May 23 to May 27.

In Amik's words, "When things have gone well so far, the end will surely be well." He wants to become a scientist in future and thanked the West Bengal government for its support.
