This historical lagoon is located 30 km east of Ghatail upazila Sadar of Tangail district. Covering an area of about 13 acres, this huge lake was excavated under the leadership of Sagar Raja of the Pala period. The earlier name of the area built around Sagardighi was "Lohini" but now it is more popularly known as Sagardighi.

Folklore has it that Sagar King dug this reservoir to relieve the water woes of his subjects. After digging, no water came up in the reservoir, the king received instructions in a dream to lower the queen into the lake. Later, after lowering the Rani in the Dighi, the Dighi filled with water and then the Rani's life was in danger. According to many people, water rose in this lake through the self-sacrifice of a pious potter named Sagar, as a result of which the lake was named Sagar Kumor's Dighi or Sagardighi.

On the western bank of this lagoon are the remains of a fortified ghat, which is believed to have been the royal residence. Sagar Dighi High School and Sagar Dighi Dakhil Madrasa are on the north and south sides. Also on the south side of the lake, Sagar Raja's son Banaraj Pal also dug another lake on an area of about 25 acres, also known as "Bainya Dighi".
