সারাবিশ্বের পারসোনাল কম্পিউটার ব্যবহারকারীদের জন্য শুরু হয়ে গেছে মাইক্রোসফটের কাউন্টডাউন। কারণ আর মাত্র দু’বছর পর বিপুল ব্যবহূত মাইক্রোসফটের জনপ্রিয় অপারেটিং সিস্টেমস ও মাইক্রোসফট অফিস আর ব্যবহার করা যাবে না।
বিনামূল্যের এ সফটওয়্যারগুলোর জন্য সাপোর্ট বন্ধ করে দিচ্ছে এ কোম্পানিটি। সাম্প্রতিক এক ব্লগপোস্টে বিশ্ববাসীকে সে কথা জানিয়ে দিয়েছে মাইক্রোসফট। এ প্রসঙ্গে মাইক্রোসফটের মার্কেটিং ডিরেক্টর স্টেলা চেরনিয়াক বলেছেন, ‘পুরনো উইন্ডোজ এবং মাইক্রোসফট অফিস ২০০৩ এর যাবতীয় সাপোর্ট বন্ধ করে দেয়া হচ্ছে। উইন্ডোজ এক্সপি ও অফিস ২০০৩ সময়ের সবচেয়ে সফল ও জনপ্রিয় সফটওয়্যার কিন্তু প্রযুক্তির ধারা অনেকটা বদলেছে, তাই উন্নয়নের দিকে মনোযোগ দিতে হচ্ছে।’
তিনি পার্সোনাল কম্পিউটার ব্যবহারকারী বিশেষত ব্যবসায়ীদের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করে বলেছেন, ২০১৪ সালের ৮ এপ্রিল এগুলো বন্ধ করে দেয়ার আগে সফটওয়্যারগুলোর সামপ্রতিক সংস্করণ ব্যবহার করতে।

ইন্টারনেট ইউজারের সংখ্যা দিন দিন বাড়ছে। তাই একজন ইউজারের ব্যক্তিগত গোপনীয়তা রক্ষায় নতুন একটি প্রস্তাব দিয়েছে হোয়াইট হাউস। যে কোন ইউজার যাতে খুব সহজেই তার গোপনীয়তা রক্ষা করতে পারেন সেজন্য চলছে ‘ওয়ান ক্লিক’ প্রক্রিয়ায় সমাধানের চেষ্টা।
অনলাইনে ব্যক্তিগত নিরাপত্তা আর তথ্য সুরক্ষার বিষয়টি এখন নিয়মিত আলোচনার বিষয় হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। সাধারণ ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহারকারীরা যেসব বিষয় ইন্টারনেটে খোঁজ করে কিংবা যেসব বিষয় নিয়ে আগ্রহ প্রকাশ করে সেগুলো অনেক সার্চ ইঞ্জিন গোপনে সংরক্ষণ করে। এরপর এসব পছন্দ-অপছন্দের বিষয় মাথায় রেখে সাজানো হয় অনলাইন বিজ্ঞাপন। দেখা গেছে আপনি গুগলে গাড়ি কেনার জন্য কিছু সাইট ভিজিট করলেন। পরে অন্য কোন ওয়েবসাইটে ভিজিট করলে দেখা যাবে সেখানে বিভিন্ন সব গাড়ির বিজ্ঞাপনের ব্যানার ঝুলছে। অনেক সময় আপনার মেলবক্সেও হাজির হবে গাড়ির বিভিন্ন বিজ্ঞাপন।
ব্যাপারটি অনেকে কাকতালীয় মনে করলেও আসলে এর পুরোটাই ইন্টারনেট প্রযুক্তির কল্যাণে সম্ভব হয়েছে। এটিকে কাকতালীয় ভাবার কোন কারণ নেই। আপনি যখন কোন বিষয় সার্চ ইঞ্জিনে খুঁজেন, তখন সেই সার্চ ইঞ্জিন আপনার পছন্দের বিষয়গুলোকে জমা করে। তারপর সে অনুযায়ী বিজ্ঞাপন প্রদর্শিত হয় অন্য সাইটগুলোতে।
অনেকের ধারণা, সার্চ ইঞ্জিন গুগল কিংবা ফেসবুকের মতো সাইটগুলো এভাবেই ব্যবহারকারীর ব্যক্তিগত পছন্দ-অপছন্দের বিষয়গুলো জমা করছে। আর এটা আসলে ব্যবহারকারীর অগোচরেই এমনটা করা হয়।
হোয়াইট হাউসের পরিকল্পনা হচ্ছে, ইন্টারনেট ব্রাউজারে একটি অপশন যোগ করা হবে। এর মাধ্যমে ইন্টারনেট ব্যবহারকারীরা মাত্র একটি ক্লিকেই জানাতে পারবেন, তার পছন্দ-অপছন্দের বিষয় সার্চ ইঞ্জিন বা অন্য কোন সাইট জমা রাখতে পারবে কিনা।
