BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was arrested by the Metropolitan Police (DB) late at night just before the start of the 72-hour blockade called by 18 parties.
He was arrested from the BNP office in Nayapaltan around 4 am on Saturday. At that time, BNP executive member Belal Ahmed was also arrested by DB. It is not known where Rizvi and Belal were taken. It is assumed that they have been taken to the DB office. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was serving as the sole spokesperson of 18 parties in the ongoing movement of 18 parties. Meanwhile, in the absence of Rizvi, BNP National Executive Committee Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed will act as the spokesperson of the party.
Earlier, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced a 72-hour blockade program from today in a press conference at the central office of BNP. This continuous blockade will continue till 6 am next Tuesday. This new program has been announced to collect various demands including the arrest of leaders and activists, the involvement of central leaders in the new car burning case, elections under a non-partisan government.
Meanwhile, despite the start of the program, no significant sabotage occurred in the capital. However, there was massive violence in Rajshahi last night, including car vandalism.
