The Dhaka Times Desk Recently, BNP has come under a lot of international pressure. BNP is in a lot of dilemma about their resignation especially due to the terrorist activities of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Even if Jamaat wants to leave BNP, there is a lot of doubt whether Jamaat will actually leave BNP. Political analysts also think so.
BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia recently told international media that keeping Jamaat in alliance is a political strategy. However, he did not say anything openly about what kind of strategy has been taken in this regard. As a counter reaction, Jamaat-e-Islami also said that this statement of BNP is also a strategy.
And so, all things considered, what is clear is that BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami are inextricably linked. It remains to be seen how the issue will be resolved politically.
There are different opinions about Jamaat within BNP itself. Who wants Jamaat to be thrown out of the alliance? Again, no one wants Jamaat to be thrown out of the alliance as a political challenge for BNP.
Looking at the situation, it is clear that BNP is now in both crises. It's like a 'cut in the throat' situation. Now even if I want to swallow, I feel pain and I can't even 'swallow'.
Such an attitude was seen in the BNP in Monday's rally in the capital. Two top leaders of BNP gave conflicting statements about the absence of Jamaat-e-Islami. One said Jamaat did not join due to security reasons. Another said BNP was relieved in their absence. BNP standing committee member Lt. General Off. Mahbubur Rahman and chairperson's adviser Osman Farooq gave these statements. Independent Television aired their statement on Tuesday.
On January 15, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia announced the mass meeting program at a press conference. The program on January 20 at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital is said to be of 18 teams. The next day an application was made to the police for permission. After getting permission from the police administration on Sunday evening, it was stated that it was not a program of 18 teams. It was even informed that Jamaat-e-Islami will not be present in that program.
Seeing such a situation, it can be understood that BNP is giving importance to the words of international friends. And so the Jamaat was kept aside by bringing the assembly into party consideration. However, it is very difficult for BNP to exclude Jamaat from the alliance. So BNP is in dilemma and conflict with Jamaat. It may take more time to clear things up. Now it's just a matter of waiting.
