The Dhaka Times Desk Jamaat-e-Islami has called a hartal for tomorrow Wednesday and the day after Thursday to protest the hanging of Azhar.
The International Criminal Tribunal-1 ordered the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam on charges of crimes against humanity. In protest against this verdict, Jamaat-e-Islami has called a nationwide strike on Wednesday and the day after Thursday.
This program was announced by Amir Maqbool Ahmad in charge of the party in a statement protesting the judgment of the International Criminal Tribunal on Tuesday.
A nationwide morning-evening hartal will be observed from 6 am to 5:30 pm on Wednesday, a statement said. Jamaat-e-Islami will observe countrywide morning-evening hartal from 6 am to 5:30 pm on the next day as well.
Meanwhile, ATM Azharul Islam was brought to Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur at around 8 pm on Monday night.
After the presentation of evidence, cross-examination and arguments by the lawyers of both the sides, the case was kept on Awaiting Judgment (CAV) from last September 18. After 103 days of waiting, this case was decided.
This is the 15th verdict in the crime against humanity case. Among them, 7 cases were announced in International Criminal Tribunal-1 and 8 judgments in Tribunal-2.
It is to be noted that at 12:00 noon, the International Criminal Tribunal-1 ordered the execution of Jamaat-e-Islami Acting Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam, who was arrested in the case of crimes against humanity, led by the chairman of the tribunal, Justice M Inayetur Rahim, Justice Anwarul Haque and Justice Jahangir Hossain.
