The Dhaka Times Desk 150 Bangladeshis rescued in Myanmar are returning today. The BGB is going to bring back 150 Bangladeshis among the 208 migrants rescued from the Myanmar waters while floating in the sea.
Among the 208 migrants rescued from Myanmar waters while floating in the sea, 150 Bangladeshis were initially identified. BGB is going to bring them back on Monday.
The Myanmar Navy rescued the 208 people while floating in the sea on May 21. Later it was claimed by Myanmar that there are 200 Bangladeshis among them. In view of this, a delegation of 11 members led by the BGB was scheduled to go to Myanmar on May 24, but the trip was postponed as the Myanmar authorities asked to take back the rescued Bangladeshis as well as their claims. After that, BGB sent a letter to Myanmar's Border Guard Force asking for a complete list of those rescued.
The list then sent by the Myanmar authorities was confusing and incomplete. The list was sent to the BGB headquarters and the Ministry of Home Affairs on the same day. Bangladesh then sent another letter to Myanmar asking for a complete list.
Colonel Md. Cox's Bazar sector commander of BGB. Khalekuzzaman said, 'Recently, the Myanmar side sent a list of 200 people. After checking the list, 150 people have been identified as Bangladeshi citizens.
He also said, 'On Monday at 10:30 am, a flag meeting will be held between the BGB and the Myanmar Border Police (BGP) at the border of Bangladesh's Ghumdhum and Myanmar's Dhekibnia. Through that meeting, 150 people identified as Bangladeshis will be brought back.
It should be noted that on May 29, the Myanmar Navy rescued another 727 migrants. Myanmar has also claimed that there are Bangladeshis among them. It is said that discussions are going on between the two countries.
