The state of emergency imposed a month ago following a terrorist attack in the Tunisian tourist city of Sousse has been extended by another two months. The extended deadline was announced in a statement on the country's presidential office's Facebook page.
The statement said that President Beji Said Essebsi had reached the decision to extend the state of emergency in consultation with the Tunisian Prime Minister and the Speaker of the Parliament. The statement said that the extended state of emergency will be enforced from August 3.
It should be noted that on June 26, at least 37 people, including foreign tourists, were killed in an attack by two unidentified gunmen in the Tunisian tourist city of Sousse. However, on June 27, the Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the attack. On July 4, Tunisian President Beji Said Essebsi declared a state of emergency following the attack. Along with that, an additional 3,000 security officers were given responsibility for security in Tunisia's tourist areas. However, since then the situation there has been normal.
