The Dhaka Times Desk Barack Obama has nominated Behnaz Kibria of Bangladeshi origin as a member of the Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations.
A few days before Barack Obama's departure, the White House announced on Monday that 29 people, including Behnaz, would be nominated for various positions. If the nomination is approved by the Senate, Behnaz can serve as a member of the committee for two years.
Behnaz Kibria has served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of the US Trade Representative since 2007. He was earlier the Assistant General Council of the same department. Behnaz also served in the US House of Representatives on the Peru, Colombia and Korea Free Trade Agreement.
Before joining the US administration, Behnaz was associated with the Washington DC law firm Hogan & Hartson LLP.
It may be mentioned that Behnaz Kibria, who was born in Dhaka, graduated from George Washington University Law School and BA from Wesleyan University. Behnaz lives in Arlington, Virginia with her two daughters and husband.
