The Dhaka Times Desk International media have reported that 36 Yazidis who have been held as slaves by the Islamic State militants in Iraq for almost 3 years have been freed.
According to the UN office in Iraq, about 1500 women and children are still being held by IS. The group of 36 freed included men, women and children.
According to the BBC, after their rescue, they were kept in a UN shelter in Dohu, Kurdish-dominated northern Iraq. However, it is not yet known where exactly they were held or how they were freed.
It is believed that the details of the rescue operation have not yet been disclosed due to the fear that the Yazidis who are still detained may face problems in the rescue operation.
It should be noted that in Iraq in 2014, when IS captured large areas of the country, they killed and imprisoned many people of the minority Yazidi religious community. They are used as slaves and even sexually abused, according to media reports.
