The Dhaka Times Desk Accidents happen in the country almost every day. Many people were tragically injured and killed in these incidents. Two intercity trains collided at Phulbari railway station in Dinajpur at 4 am today. Due to this, railway traffic is stopped for about 5 hours. But now it is normal. 50 people have been injured in this accident till the latest news.
Railways and local people said that the border express train was standing on line 1 at Phulbari railway station around 4 pm. At that time, the Ekta Express train coming from Dhaka to Dinajpur entered the same line by wrong signal and hit the other train head on. As a result, the engines of two trains caught fire and two coaches fell off the railway line, injuring many passengers.
One coach of Shimand Express and three coaches of Ekta Express derailed in the accident. Twelve of the injured have been admitted to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex.
After 5 hours of suspension of rail traffic, two trains were recovered and the rail traffic was normalized. Western Railway Chief Executive Hasan Mansoor said that a five-member investigation committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the accident. OC said Assistant Station Master Abdul Hamid and Pointsman Yunus who were on duty at the time are absconding.
