Chief Justice today Wednesday. A 5-judge bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court headed by Mozammel Hossain awaited the appeal verdict. The other members of the bench are - Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, Justice Md. Abdul Wahab Mia, Justice Hasan Faiz Siddiqui and Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury.
Earlier, the hearing of the appeal against Saeedee's sentence ended yesterday. On this day, after rebutting the arguments of the accused, the state responded. However, instead of fixing the date of judgment yesterday, the court fixed the date for the order on the two applications today.
Last Sunday, the accused applied for summoning the documents related to Ibrahim Kutty's murder. In the application, the request for summoning the Register Account (GR) of the case is stated. On the other hand, after the war of liberation, the state applied for summoning the documents of the case of the special tribunal formed under the Dalal Act. The hearing on these two applications ended yesterday. The court today rejected two separate applications made by the accused and the state party. At the same time, the verdict on the appeal is pending. The court will announce the verdict any day. In 1971, a second case of crimes against humanity was pending in the Appellate Division.
It is to be noted that on February 28 last year, International Criminal Tribunal-1 sentenced Jamaat leader Saeedi to death for crimes against humanity. Eight of the 20 charges brought against him were proved beyond doubt. Among them, the court ordered Saeedi to be hanged for the murder of Ibrahim Kutty and the murder of Bisabali. Saidi appealed against the verdict on March 28 last year. And the state appealed for the sentence on 6 charges that were found guilty.
