The Dhaka Times Desk The lawyer of Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, who was sentenced to death for crimes against humanity, said that the review will be done any day.
Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Muhammad Kamaruzzaman will apply for a review against the death sentence for crimes against humanity. They believe that he will get justice and acquittal.
Kamaruzzaman's lawyers told reporters after meeting Kamaruzzaman in Dhaka Central Jail on Saturday. His five lawyers went to meet Kamaruzzaman at Dhaka Central Jail around 10:30 am. Meanwhile, those 5 lawyers stayed inside for 55 minutes. But spoke with Kamaruzzaman for 30 minutes.
After coming out of prison, Kamaruzzaman's lawyer Tajul Islam told reporters that they will apply for a review.
When asked when the application will be made, Tajul Islam said, there is 15 days from the day the death warrant was read out. A review application will be made within this period.
Kamaruzzaman's lawyer said regarding the apology to the President, Kamaruzzaman and his team believe that they will get justice in the review. He mentioned that this judgment cannot be implemented even an hour before the review is settled.
When asked about Kamaruzzaman's condition in prison, his other lawyer Shishir Monir said, 'He is fine. He firmly believes he is innocent. He has nothing to do with the events for which he has been ordered to be hanged. He (Kamaruzzaman) believes that he will get justice and acquittal in the review.'
It should be noted that the full judgment given by the Appellate Division upholding the death sentence of Kamaruzzaman for crimes against humanity was published last Wednesday. A copy of the judgment was sent to the office of the Registrar of the International Criminal Tribunal that same day and night. He was sent to Dhaka Central Jail after a death warrant was issued the next day on Thursday.
